Morley College Garden is a little green oasis of tranquillity, just minutes’ walk from busy Waterloo Station. The Morley textile tutors are opening our secret garden especially for the Chelsea Fringe to give you a taste of the wide range of textile courses we offer, using natural materials from our own flowerbeds.
We will use natural dyes from the new dye garden to dye fabric and make felt flowers, and also create handmade paper and woven basketry flowers using plant fibres from the garden. We are offering 2 hour workshops in each skill – try one or two!
In case of very inclement weather, we will retreat to the Morley College textiles studio.
11am-1pm (Papermaking and Dyeing) and
2pm-4pm (Felt Flowers and Basketweaving)
ARTS EDUCATION CHARITY IN SIERRA LEONE
I commissioned this short film while volunteering for a small NGO, WAYout Arts, in Freetown, Sierra Leone in West Africa to raise much needed funds for the charity. WAYout supports homeless, conflict-affected and educationally disadvantaged street youth. Filmed by WAYout members, it features a local basket maker - Alpha Samura as he tries to support himself through his basket making.
If you enjoyed watching this film I'd be very grateful if you would give a donation (perhaps £5?) to WAYout Arts by clicking the link below. You will be taken to the secure PayPal website where you can make your donation by PayPal if you have an account or by Credit Card.
